Ostendo is powered by an SQL relational database
Ostendo is built around Firebird, the open source version of Borland's InterBase. You get a true, scalable, SQL relational database -- built right into the product. With Firebird, Ostendo can support up to 100 users.

- Database technology has been extensively used for improved performance eg triggers, stored procedures, generators and exceptions
- Integrated high end reporting and analysis capabilities with query design and selection criteria have been stored in the database itself ie. not in the executable file. 
- Graphical user interface GUI can be changed by the user
- User can customise the menus to add external programmes and files to Ostendo within its security
- Opening lists can be customised by the user
- Quick launch toolbar for commonly used menu options an be customised
- System wide alerts and reminders for urgent and important events as defined by the user are being designed into the software for future release
- Customer can also define their own compulsory fields for their business that users must input
- Complete transactional change audit log can be activated by user at any time.
- Ostendo is a true client/server program. Clients can be Windows XP Pro or Windows 7. Server can be Windows 2003 or Windows 2008. Ostendo can run under Microsoft Terminal services.

Custom scripting engine allows customer specific routines to be created and added as a regular menu option. Approximately 50 new functions have been added to the Ostendo scripting engine. Here are some typical uses:
 - Importing Orders such as Sales, Purchases, Jobs and Assemblies into Ostendo from emails/web sites    - Importing Supplier Catalogues either manually or automated
 - Automatically running reports at pre-scheduled times, and then emailing these to specific staff
 - The ability for your customers to request copies of documents; such as invoices, quotes or delivery notes via an automated web/email solution
 - The ability to capture requests such as: service or quote requests via a simple web form, and then have them feed automatically into the Call Centre Ticketing system within Ostendo
 - The ability to automatically update web sites with new price lists etc
 - Automatically create timesheet entries based on employees emailing timesheets in MS Excel
 - Provide the ability to automatically feed information into Ostendo from external sources (such as Data capture devices)
